New restaurant to launch in Media City

The owners of Stockport's Damson restaurant have announced plans to launch a new site in Media City, adding to the plethora of hospitality and leisure venues in the regenerated area of Salford.

However, Damson will be the first independently-run site to open in the area, and hopes to draw on the success of its sister restaurant in Stockport to attract customers.

Owners Steve Pilling and Simon Stanley have earned a record number of accolades from the Manchester Food Festival since they opened their first establishment in 2009, reports Salford Online.

Their new site is currently being fitted with kitchen equipment and will launch in January 2013.

Located at the centre of Media City, it has the facilities to serve up to 140 covers and overlooks the garden and piazza.

Mr Stanley will help supervise the kitchen team, who will prepare many of the classic, locally-sourced dishes associated with the Stockport restaurant.

These include signature dishes such as Whitby crab and parsley risotto, grilled scallops and other seafood meals.

"This is one of the most exciting projects I've been involved in yet. The opportunity to be at the forefront of a new dining community in the region’s most exciting location and to invest in the region's hospitality industry at the same time is a fantastic thing," said Mr Pilling.

In addition to servicing the people living around the Salford and Media City area, the new restaurant is to work with the nearby Salford City College to help students learn more about the hospitality industry.
