Pizza Hut to update 80 restaurants Pizza Hut has announced it will update 80 restaurants as part of a £60 million refurbishment scheme.

Its facility at Crawley Leisure Park will be the first to display the new design as it re-opens today (October 18th), while all other locations will be finished by next year's end.

The chain's new look will remove interior ceilings where possible and add different lighting and facades. It will also see a greater emphasis on the brand's more unique features, such as its ice cream factory, buffet and salad station.

Chefs will be moved into the restaurant for front-of-house displays of dough stretching and a topping station.

This may be of note to the wider industry, as Pizza Hut seems to be pushing the self-service aspect of its casual dining experience, which means the company will require different catering equipment to traditional table-service establishments. The company's self-service features, such as desserts, waffle machines and ice cream factory will be combined into a preparation station taking central position in the new layout.

As part of the upgrade, it will also be expanding its menus to incorporate more food, notably adding wings, fries and ribs.

Pizza Hut restaurants managing director Jens Hofma said: "We are not just in the business of selling pizzas, but rather putting the guest experience at the heart of everything we do, which is why we are reengineering the business with a renewed focus, improving staff training and overhauling the look and feel of our estate with these new concepts."

The brand - currently consisting of 330 locations in the UK - was acquired by Rutland Partners after it purchased Pizza Hut from YUM! Brands last year, claiming it would restructure and improve the company. It acquired the UK business for an undisclosed sum but remains franchised underneath YUM!.

Whitbread previously owned a 50 per cent share along side YUM! but the former sold its half to the latter in 2006 for £112 million.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801651135-ADNFCR
