International refrigeration conference to be held in UK

Catering equipment suppliers may be interested in attending an international refrigeration conference that is set to be held in the UK next year.

Hosted by the Institute of Refrigeration, the event will focus on sustainability and the cold chain and is to be held in London in June 2014. It will cover three days, starting with a reception on the 23rd, followed by technical papers being presented across the 24th and 25th.

The conference will attempt to bring together parties who have an interest in the cold chain and will cover topics such as food and transport, as well as examining new developments and current trends in the sector.

Another primary focus of the event will be sustainability in refrigeration and the related environmental concerns. Some of the issues that will be analysed include refrigerant containment, the use of renewable energy in the food chain and carbon footprinting.

St Mary’s University College Twickenham is to host the conference due to its proximity to central London and Heathrow Airport.

One topic that may be discussed at the event will be the Carbon Trust's claim that companies in the catering industry could save over a quarter of a billion pounds by adopting more energy-efficient practices.

In a report released in June, the carbon reduction organisation said using new and better quality kitchen equipment, including refrigeration products, could play a big part in allowing firms to make these savings. The Carbon Trust has released a new Carbon Calculator to help companies identify where they can improve their energy efficiency.

Chairman of the Catering Equipment Suppliers Association Nick Oryino welcomed the development.

"It has the potential to radically change the way in which capital and operating expenditure costs are judged and it will help ensure that more efficient equipment is manufactured, specified and installed," he stated.

Companies that are interested in attending the Institute of Refrigeration conference can request more details on the organisation's website.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801616153-ADNFCR
