Two leading catering equipment organisations have agreed to collaborate more closely on key industry issues.

The Catering Equipment Suppliers Association (CESA) and the Catering Equipment Distributors Association (CEDA) have announced they will now work together more often.

They plan to host a joint technical conference, which will take place on October 2nd at the Hellidon Lakes Hotel, Northamptonshire.

Jack Sharkey, chair of the CEDA, told Eat Out Magazine: "Both the equipment and systems we work with and the regulations we operate under are increasingly complex.

“The conference will look at a variety of issues, such as health and safety legislation, servicing schedules and new technologies.”

Another scheme that will bring the organisations together is a sustainability project involving the British Hospitality Association (BHA) and Foodservice Consultants Society International (FCSI).

“CESA and CEDA are working with the BHA and FCSI to agree a common approach that will help us reduce the industry’s carbon footprint.

"Energy and resource-saving equipment will play a key role in the success of these initiatives," commented Nick Oryino, chair of the CESA.

Another joint project is ‘Mind the Gap,’ which is carrying out research into attitudes to sustainability within the food service industry.

The organisations will also work together with the FCSI on end-user training through the re-launch of the ‘Shut it! Fill it! Turn it off!’ campaign, which aims to promote better practices in commercial kitchen equipment operation.

“There is huge scope for the two associations to work in partnership effectively.

"We are already looking at educational programmes, apprentice schemes and developing a code of practice for effective fats, oils and grease management,” Mr Sharkey commented.

The CEDA chair is new to the position, having taken over from Iain Munro at the organisation's annual general meeting on April 11th.

Mr Sharkey said it is a great privilege to lead the CEDA and his aim is to make the association even stronger and more relevant both for its members and the wider industry.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801573861-ADNFCR
