Sysco GB £15m investment in its Scottish business
16 May 2025
Sysco GB, the UK’s largest foodservice wholesaler, has reported that it is making good progress on the £15m investment in its Brakes Scotland Newhouse depot, with the first phase of the expansion on schedule for completion by July 2025.
The extension will add 50,000 sq. ft (the equivalent to 17 tennis courts), to the facility and enable Brakes Scotland to double the number of products held locally—making Newhouse the largest stocked next-day delivery service depot in Scotland.
Already one of the largest of the 30 depots in Sysco’s British network, the Newhouse site will grow to more than 200,000 sq. ft, improving facilities to support an expanded range including nearly 1,600 fresh items—an increasingly important offering for food outlets across the country. The investment will also support an increase in delivery capacity from 100 to 130 vehicles, enhancing service efficiency and reach across the region.
As part of the development, Brakes Scotland is committed to growing the number of Scottish products it sells. To further strengthen food safety and quality, a new purpose-built quality control room will be introduced and two new quality controllers will be employed, reinforcing Sysco GB’s commitment to operational excellence.
Paul Nieduszynski, Chief Executive, Sysco GB, said: “Brakes Scotland has grown steadily over the past few years, serving communities right across the nation. The investment that we are making in the Newhouse facility to increase our capacity and grow our Scottish range shows our commitment to providing market-leading range and service to our existing and new customers across Scotland.”
Brakes, which sells a comprehensive range of fresh, frozen and ambient products, as well as catering equipment, delivers to businesses that serve food, including pubs, restaurants, schools and care homes across Scotland.
