Jamie's Italian has the 'best children's menu'

Jamie's Italian is the UK restaurant chain with the best children's menu, according to a new study.

The Soil Association and organic baby food company Organix have revealed the results of their Out to Lunch project, which saw a number of parents visit 21 of the country's leading venues and rate the standard of the kids' food on offer. 

The restaurants were judged against a number of different criteria, such as the variety and healthiness of their meals and whether they provided a family-friendly service. 

Jamie's Italian was given a rating of 50 points out of a possible 80, which was enough to see it top the chart. The company was praised for serving the freshest ingredients, as well as the healthiest meals. It was also recognised for the willingness of its staff to disclose where their food is sourced from. 

Jamie Oliver commented: "Since the first Jamie’s Italian opened we’ve always kept things kid-friendly with our funky viewfinder menus and super-tasty food, so to come top of the table is a fantastic achievement."

"Over the years, I’ve learnt that if you give kids a bit of ownership over their food, they’ll really embrace it," he added.

Wagamamas and JD Wetherspoon came joint second in the survey, with both chains receiving a score of 38. The worst performing venues were Prezzo, KFC and Burger King, which were given scores of 17, 14 and ten respectively.

The Out to Lunch campaign also revealed some interesting results about children's menus as a whole, which may be of interest to catering equipment companies who supply appliances to the companies rated by the project.

Only seven per cent of parents claimed they were happy with the meals on kids' menus, while 65 per cent rated them as poor. Meanwhile, just ten per cent of the venues visited offered child-sized portions of adult meals as standard and this is one of the things parents would most like to see improved.

The results of this project will certainly have caught the attention of restaurant chains, as 40 per cent of parents said they eat out with their children at least once a fortnight.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801613689-ADNFCR
