Restaurant chain TGI Friday's has announced plans to order new kitchen equipment ahead of opening six new establishments across the UK in the coming months as part of an ambitious expansion project for its British operation.

The first of these sites will be in Leeds Trinity and Glasgow Fort, with four additional openings to be announced over the course of 2013. Some 600 jobs will be generated through the scheme, which sees the popular chain attempt to keep pace with the UK's casual dining sector.

Following an award-winning 2012 and transformation under the helm of UK chief executive officer Karen Forrester, the firm is hoping to continue its success and attract even more customers to its restaurants.

TGI Friday's is owned by Carlson, a multinational hospitality and leisure chain with a massive portfolio of successful businesses such as Radisson.

David Carroll, TGI Friday's UK director of acquisitions and development, suggested that 2013 could be one of the company's landmark years.

"Not only do we have six exciting new openings, we're also focusing heavily on our corporate social responsibility initiatives and continually supporting team members' pursuits outside of work," he added.

He added that the company is keen to source enthusiastic and engaged employees to join the new sites. TGI Friday's won a number of awards last year for its efforts to provide an enjoyable and challenging workplace for its UK staff.

The brand is known across the world for its American-style menu and lovingly-decorated restaurants, which often make use of locally-sourced antiques.

It has over 900 establishments in more than 60 countries and territories, having expanded rapidly since opening its first site in New York in 1965.

Casual dining has become big business in the UK in recent years - Pizza Hut chief executive Jens Hofma recently told the Telegraph his company is planning to invest in its operation to compete with their rivals in the sector.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801535722-ADNFCR
