The Bristol-based Loungers group has extended its restaurant, bar and cafe portfolio, with the opening of its 30th site in the UK.

Grupo Lounge in Wesbury-on-Trym is the 25th edition of the company's Lounge concept.

The £500,000 refit, which was the former home of the Blockbuster video hire store, saw the installation of kitchen equipment, a seating area spanning two floors and a 40-seater roof terrace.

This latest addition to the group's collection is thought to be the biggest of the Bristol Lounges to date, creating as many as 20 new jobs in the process.

Alex Reilley, managing director of Loungers, said this newest site is particularly exciting as it is the first opening in Bristol for almost seven years.

"Westbury-on-Trym is a really great area with a 'village' centre and we were strongly encouraged to open in the area by a constant stream of local residents," he added.

Priding itself as an informal, neighbourhood-focused eatery, the Lounges' offer a wide choice of food and drinks, with emphasis placed on being a relaxed and comfortable environment.

The group is known for having quirky and retro-inspired interiors within its venues, with Victorian wallpaper, vintage furniture and photographs.

After recently celebrating the tenth anniversary of the opening of their first cafe in Bedminster, co-founders Alex Reilley, Dave Reid and Jake Bishop expect to open an additional 12 sites in 2013, spanning as far as the north-west of the country.

Its 31st site, Impero Lounge, is due to open next month in Portishead, with plans for a sixth Cosy Club to be unveiled in Exeter this April, the Caterer and Hotelkeeper reported.

Last month, the Brighton and Hove area confirmed the catering contract for the Royal Pavilion & Museums, part of Brighton and Hove City Council, Brighton Dome and Brighton Festival had been awarded to Peyton & Byrne.

The decision was reached after a joint catering review and aims to improve and revive parts of the hospitality sector.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801537553-ADNFCR
