Jamie Oliver will open a new restaurant in London after agreeing to take on a new site in Victoria.

The celebrity chef is expected to take 7,700 sq ft of space across the ground and first floor of the Kings Gate development, which is located in the centre of London. Mr Oliver already owns more than 30 restaurants worldwide as part of the Jamie's Italian chain, which was founded in 2008.

He plans to develop new venues in Australia, Russia and Singapore throughout this year. Jamie's Italian will also be opening in a Grade-II listed building in Greenwich in 2013, as well as launching its third Scottish restaurant in Aberdeen. The company is yet to reveal what the new site in Victoria will be used for.

Commercial property firm Land Securities, which owns the Kings Gate development, has also revealed it will be leasing a building to the The Royal Quarter Cafe.

The company will be taking on the 2,800 sq ft retail unit at Wellington House, which is also located in Victoria.

This will be the fourth property run by the Quarter Group in London, alongside the highly successful Chelsea Quarter Cafe, the River Quarter Kitchen in Battersea and the recently opened cafe in the Heal’s building in central London.

Colette O’Shea, head of development for London at Land Securities, said: “We are very excited to welcome Jamie Oliver and The Royal Quarter Cafe to Victoria."

She added: "The two restaurants will be a great addition to the area, catering to local residents, visitors and world-leading firms such as Microsoft, Jimmy Choo, Tom Ford and Burberry, which already call Victoria home."

Ms O'Shea claimed the companies' decision to set up in Victoria will contribute to the area "returning to its rightful place at the centre of London life, a place where people want to live, work, shop and socialise".

The development of the new sites is likely to provide several good opportunities for catering equipment suppliers in the city.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801554552-ADNFCR
