Global hospitality operator Accor has announced plans to launch four new hotels in the UK under its mid-level Mercure brand, meaning it will have 75 British properties trading under this name.

The company is a world-leading hospitality firm with sites in 92 countries across the globe and the market leader in Europe. It employs more than 150,000 employees and operates brands such as Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery and Novotel.

This move will see it further expand its British portfolio, opening new hotels in Milton Keynes, Scotland, London and Darlington.

All properties will be fully stocked with catering supplies, ensuring guests can enjoy the gourmet meals and local specialities prepared in each Mercure hotel.

Jonathan Sheard, managing director of operations for MGallery and Mercure Hotels in UK and Ireland, noted that Accor has plans to help the Mercure brand expand further over the coming months.

"We're committed to significantly growing our Mercure hotel portfolio by 2015 and this will largely be driven through our growing franchise development in the UK," he explained.

"By joining with our business, our franchise partners will be able to boost their hotels' existing exposure through the use of our brand name and benefit from our existing expertise."

This includes wide-ranging and powerful logistics networks and committed sales teams, concluded the managing director.

Two of the new properties will launch in the UK before the end of 2012, followed by the Mercure Milton Keynes Abbey Hill, which will officially open in January 2013.

Darlington's new Mercure Darlington Kings Hotel opened earlier in the month, having been extensively redeveloped following a fire in 2008.

Some 31 per cent of Accor's hotels are based in Europe and the firm has expressed its intention to make further inroads on UK markets, where it faces competition from the likes of Travelodge and Whitbread.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801466817-ADNFCR
