Restaurant news round-up

We take a look at some of the restaurant openings and news announced this week.

Anthony Demetre to open pop-up restaurant in Tower 42

Michelin-starred chef Anthony Demetre has partnered up with Restaurant Associates (RA) to launch a new pop-up business at the City of London restaurant in Tower 42.

The news comes as RA ends its relationship with previous chef Gary Rhodes.

Demetre is the chef responsible for many restaurants in London, including Arbitus, Les Deux Salons and Wild Honey with business partner Will Smith. The pop-up is to last 12 weeks and will be called 'AD12 atT42' when it opens on October 1st. It will feature a bistro menu that changes daily.

Yet the nature of pop-ups is interesting to the catering sector, as they work on different time frames. They may use existing catering equipment, depending on location, but it may be possible such businesses could need the right kitchen equipment in a hurry.

Managing director for RA Andy Harris said: "We are delighted to announce the opening of AD12 atT42 with Anthony Demetre and incredibly excited about this new phase for Restaurant Associates at Tower 42."

He said the new business could be the start of collaborations with other UK chefs in the future.

50 Choice Hotels by 2013

Choice Hotels has announced it will expand its brand with two new properties coming soon.

According to Caterer and Hotelkeeper, these are both new-builds. One will be based in Birmingham, with 51 bedrooms under SGL Management. The other will be in Wolverhampton, with 60 bedrooms, and owned by Sandon Investment. Both hotels will operate under Choice's three-star brand.

Choice has different branding within it's chain, with the menu and restaurant on offer being dependent on your location. This opens the chain up to some unique catering options, as there isn't necessarily a chain-wide standard set in place.

These announcements follow previous expansion by the company this year. Choice started with 37 hotels and expects to have 50 by the end of 2013. The company recently acquired the Winchester Royal, with 81 bedrooms, under its four-star brand Clarion Collection.

It also signed a franchise agreement with Akkeron in January which saw it take operation of nine hotels, with three or four more expected to joint Choice by the year's end.

Two Fat Ladies heading to Twoon

Two Fat Ladies in Glasgow is opening a new restaurant outside the city.

Its new restaurant in Twoon, South Ayrshire marks the fifth in the chain, but the only one outside of Glasgow. With cover for 110, the restaurant will be found in The Marine hotel.

The head chef is Andrew Beattie and the menu looks to take inspiration from the existing Two Fat Ladies at the Buttery, Glasgow. If successful, the move outside of the city could see a more nationwide approach to the chain's expanse.

Founder of the chain Mr James said: "The stunning setting at The Marine will be an idyllic backdrop to our menus. Those that already know us will be able to enjoy our experience at a new location, whilst those that are new to the Two Fat Ladies will find this the perfect introduction."

Two Fat Ladies in Twoon is expected to open at the end of the month.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801638755-ADNFCR
