Radisson Blu Manchester hotel restaurant to double in size

Extensive improvements are being made to the Radisson Blu hotel at Manchester Airport as part of a £10 million redevelopment. 

Under the plans, the restaurant is going to be doubled in size, while three specific zones - social, private and individual - will be constructed. It represents one of the largest development programmes currently being undertaken in the north of England.

As part of the scheme, which is set to be completed in three phases, new kitchen equipment will have to be ordered for the location. 

A new beginning 

The hotel was originally constructed in 1998 and is the number one location for jetsetters to stay when travelling through Manchester Airport. Part of the appeal of the hotel is the fact it has a direct link with the airport - the only accomodation able to make that boast. 

Richard Moore, area vice-president for the UK and Ireland for Carlson Rezidor - which owns the Radisson Blu brand - said the announcement marks the start of an "exciting time" for customers. 

"We are delighted to be able to put such a considerable amount of investment into this flagship property - the level of detail in the design and the thought processes behind the food and drink concept will create a real destination for our guests and the airport community," he added.

Under phase one of the project, major refurbishments will be made to the hotel's reception and lobby area, restaurant and bar. Commercial catering equipment will have to be sourced and installed, as the dining experience is given a new lease of life. 

On top of this, 120 business class bedrooms and suites are being built and the airport's largest events area is being overhauled. 

A focus on design

Graven Images - which is based in Glasgow and has a long history of designing four and five star hotels - is responsible for the plan. The company is determined to have a strong design element throughout and, according to Incentive Travel and Corporate Meetings, one of the key design features is to "capture within the public areas a series of linear spaces, linked physically or visually, to create a natural interaction between the interiors of the hotel and the passing volume of people using the airport walkway". 

As part of the evolution of the dining space, provisions will be made to turn the bar area into a DJ space as the group looks to make the whole atmosphere more enjoyable.

The project comes at a time when the Radisson Blu brand is looking to attract customers with a new summer campaign. The 'Turn Your World Blu' competition offers one person the opportunity to win a trip around the globe with free accommodation at Radisson hotels thrown in. This means the lucky person could check out the new restaurant at the Manchester Airport hotel.
