Barburrito plans further expansion

Mexican casual dining group Barburrito is planning to open three new restaurants in the near future.

This will be a continuation of the company's ongoing expansion plans, which recently saw it open its first outlet in London at Paddington station.

Morgan Davies, the chain's co-founder, told Caterer and Hotelkeeper that the next site it opens will be in Leeds, which will be its second venue in the city. Work on the premises, including the installation of new catering equipment, is already underway and the restaurant will be opened in May.

Mr Davies confirmed there are plans for another venue in a northern city, which has not yet been disclosed and there are ongoing legal discussions concerning the opening of a new site in London.

He commented: "We have spent the past 12 months getting our act together. We have invested heavily as a company in terms of our business systems, standards, staff training, new interior design and brand design to make sure our platform is right for expansion."

The company received £3.25 million of funding through the Business Growth Fund in April 2012, which is being used to expand its holdings from six venues to 18.

"We have just been through a budgeting process and we are ahead of budget and our like-for-like sales are very strong, up 15 to 20 per cent at a site level in our current estate. We don't see any reason why we can't take the business from six to 18 sites rapidly," Mr Davies stated.

The company's co-founder also said he was happy that its original restaurant in central Manchester was demonstrating year-on-year growth. He said the business is retaining customers and gaining new ones through word of mouth.

"I think that is a real testament to what we have done with the business and we believe there is a lot of headroom for growth," Mr Davies added.

Barburrito was formed in 2005 and allows customers to buy burritos and tacos that are prepared in front of them.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801563688-ADNFCR
