Michelin awards 12 restaurants a star

New awards include 12 newly-starred restaurants and 26 new Bib Gourmands.

The 2014 Michelin Guide will give 12 UK restaurants a star when it releases on October 4th.

This may prove important to the catering industry as the Michelin Guide has been a popular measurement of quality for restaurants across the world. It highlights and rewards businesses that have invested in high-grade food, service and kitchen equipment to deliver the best dining experience.

Out of the restaurants receiving their first star, nine are in London. These are the HKK in Shoreditch, the Angler in Islington, the Outlaw's at the Capital Hotel in Chelsea, Bo London in Mayfair, Story in Bermondsey, Lima in Marylebone and Regent's Park, Ametsa with Arzak Instruction in Belgravia, Brasserie Chavot in Mayfair and Social Eating House in Soho.

The guide's editor Rebecca Burr said: "With cuisines and culinary influences from all parts of the globe, it's no surprise that the capital is one of the most exciting cities in the world for food."

She added: "The Michelin guide has always reflected what's out there and London in particular has never offered so much choice."

In the rest of England, stars were given to The Samling in Ambleside, Adam's in Birmingham and Wilks in Bristol. No new stars were awarded in Wales or Scotland

Two restaurants were also given their second star. These were Heston Blumenthal's Dinner in Hyde Park and the Greenhouse in Mayfair. As for three Michelin stars - the most that can be awarded - there no changes from last year.

Alongside the acclaimed stars, Michelin are also awarded 26 new Bib Gourmands. These are awards given to restaurants that offer high value and quality for money - specifically in the region of £28. This includes eight locations in London, 15 in the rest of England, one in Scotland and two in Northern Ireland.

Alongside the 2014 Guide, the company is also releasing its Michelin Guide London 2014 - a more in-depth look at the starred restaurants available in the city.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801642495-ADNFCR
