Sosban named best restaurant in Wales

The Sosban restaurant in Llanelli, which is co-owned by Welsh rugby stars Stephen Jones and Dwayne Peel, has been named the best restaurant in the country at a prestigious award ceremony.

It was handed the coveted AA Award as part of a glittering ceremony at London's Hilton on Park Lane Hotel, despite the fact that the eatery only opened its doors for the first time last September.

The talented rugby duo told Wales Online: "It is fantastic to be given such a prestigious award in our first year of business. It is a tribute to all the directors and the team at Sosban."

Situated in a Grade II listed building and located on Llanelli's North Dock, the eatery was refurbished following investment from Jones, Peel, construction entrepreneur Robert Williams, and restaurateur and food broadcaster Simon Wright.

One of its biggest draws is the scenic setting and impressive building, which was built in 1900 and once used as a hydraulic power source for the operation of the docks before being utilised for various light industrial purposes.

It has now been converted to a 100-cover restaurant providing a stunning view of the industrial sights of Llanelli, in a building dominated by an impressive 90 ft stone tower visible from many miles.

This award caps a very successful twelve months for the new eatery, which is led by head chef Sian Rees - one of the leading female chefs in Britain, with experience working in Michelin-starred restaurants across the country.

Mr Williams, the company director, said: "I would like to thank everyone, the directors, head chef Sian, the restaurant management team, and every single waiter and waitress for their hard work and loyalty. We can all be proud of this achievement."
