Rockliffe Hall plans restaurant expansion

The north-east's only five-star luxury hotel, golf resort and spa, Rockliffe Hall, could be forgiven for resting on its laurels given the impressive range of awards it has already collared over recent years.

However, the popular establishment has announced plans to improve its hospitality offering by expanding its restaurant through a £200,000 investment that will see new kitchen equipment added to the hotel.

The owners have invested in a renovation and expansion of its Old Hall site, meaning that the triple AA rosette-winning Orangery will enjoy a major redevelopment, reports the Journal.

Kenny Atkinson, director of food at Rockliffe Hall, previously announced the project by suggesting that it would appeal to a set of people becoming more interested in the "theatre" of food production, with the popularity of TV cookery programmes sparking a passion for the subject among many Britons.

Managing director Nick Holmes told the Journal that the Orangery's status as a flagship restaurant means it is crucial it maintains its reputation for innovation as well as high-quality food.

"People flock from all over the UK to sample Kenny's food. However, now we have more options and are open longer hours including lunch times," he added.

"The investment is part of our growth plans as we constantly remain at the forefront of not only the UK's hotel market, but the world's."

In addition to increasing the capacity and opening hours of the acclaimed eatery, a walk-in wine cellar was created, while the kitchens were restructured and extended.

Situated within 375 acres on the banks of the River Tees outside the village of Hurworth, Rockliffe Hall is an instantly recognisable landmark set in an 18th century estate.

It was awarded Large Hotel of the Year 2012 at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, which praised the strength of its hospitality offering.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801533321-ADNFCR
