New Swansea eatery models itself on popular TV show

A new restaurant that has been inspired by the popular TV show Man vs. Food is set to open in Swansea.

The Smoke Haus will take the place of La Tasca on Wind Street and the eatery will offer diners one of the most unique culinary experiences in the city, This is South Wales reports.

Owners Mark Power from Swansea and Jane Myall of Newport told the news provider there is nothing like The Smoke Haus in the UK.

It takes the form of a traditional American diner - just like the establishments seen on the hit TV programme.

In the show, food enthusiast Adam Richman travels the length and breadth of the US in search of the tastiest and most unique restaurants.

Along the way he takes on numerous "big eating challenges", where he consumes monstrous burgers, pizzas the size of crop circles and red hot buffalo wings.

The cult classic has returned in the shape of Man vs. Food Nation, which sees Mr Richman "mentor" hungry members of the public before they take on their own gastronomic challenge.

There will be a competitive element to dinner at The Smoke Haus too and the eatery's catering equipment will be put to the test as chefs prepare metre-long hotdogs among other oversized offerings.

Diners who can eat six spicy wings in ten minutes will also win a t-shirt and have their name placed on the restaurant's wall of fame.

"I love Adam Richman's passion for food and I wanted to bring something similar to Swansea," Mr Power was quoted as saying.

"The food will stand up on its own. We're giving something back to Swansea, and it's nice that we're local people, having a go, doing something for ourselves."

Mr Power is hoping the people of Swansea will embrace the establishment and he has ambitions of setting up a franchise in Cardiff and then further afield.

The Smoke Haus is due to open its doors to the public on November 13th.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801483927-ADNFCR
