Italian restaurant chain Il Calcio is to open a new flagship eatery in London's swanky Mayfair.

The new 60-cover fine dining establishment is to be found on North Audley Street and staff are presently busy booking and purchasing catering equipment and supplies for the grand unveiling of the venture later this month.

It is the first time the Romania-based company has ventured into the UK marketplace - although it operates ten casual dining eateries and two up-market restaurants in its homeland - but founder Valentin Salagean is no stranger to high-end cuisine, being the man behind Nello's in New York.

"First, we have to test the water and then we'll see. Right now we have to get these two locations running smoothly, if we have positive results then we'll definitely go further," he told Big Hospitality.

"We are excited about bringing our Il Calcio product to Mayfair. I believe it will be extremely well received there."

In addition to the new Mayfair establishment, Il Calcio will be opening a second London venture at the former site of the Saddler's steakhouse on Old Brampton Road. This new eatery will be overseen by group restaurant manager Cosmin Bunescu.

The Old Brampton Road establishment is set to open on December 1st.

Elsewhere in the capital, two Michelin-starred chef Alvin Leung recently announced plans to open a new high-class restaurant in Mayfair, with the doors to Bo London set to open on December 6th.

It follows the standout success of Leung's Hong Kong restaurant Bo Innovation - a situation made all the more remarkable due to the fact he is a self-taught chef who has only been a professional for the last eight years.

The acclaimed chef stated: "I'm really looking forward to opening Bo London and becoming part of [the city's] ... unique energy."ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801487957-ADNFCR
