Mezze restaurant chain to expand

Bristol-based restaurant chain Mezze has announced plans for a considerable expansion over the coming months, with the opening of two new outlets.

Both the Warwick Arms in Clutton and The White Lion in Portishead are to benefit from a combined £400,000 revamp between now and the end May, with new kitchen equipment and an extensive refurbishment of both properties to be the order of the day.

Having opened its first restaurant - Mezze at the Royal Garden in Thornbury - back in 2008, the chain is now going from strength to strength and will see works including the delivery of a new cocktail bar and the installation of a bespoke wood-burning stove at the Warwick Arms in the months ahead, Bristol Business News reports.

Mezze owner Alex Tryfonos told the publication: "We are thrilled with the rapid expansion of the Mezze chain across the south-west, which has regenerated the fortunes of several old and much-loved pubs in the region.

"To think five years ago we were a small Bristol company and now we have five Mezze outlets in the south-west, which employ more than 100 local residents in a variety of jobs."

He added that investment in public houses can play a key role in ensuring local communities continue to thrive, as they can become a key focal point for such small towns as Clutton and Portishead.

The news follows the opening of the chain's new North Somerset facility in May last year, with a £250,000 investment in the redevelopment of the Ship & Castle in Congresbury.

One of the standout features of the refurbishment was the £75,000 spent on the creation of a new Mediterranean Garden at the pub, which saw a considerable makeover including the construction of a new raised decking, kids' play castle, a number of water features and an outside TV for guests.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801525773-ADNFCR
