Italian restaurant could open in Lincoln

A busy city centre pub in Lincoln could be replaced by a Carluccio's, with negotiations ongoing between the owners of the Lamb and Flag in High Street and a prospective buyer.

According to the Lincoln Echo, the new establishment could be launched as early as March 2013 and would hope to take advantage of high levels of footfall in the area, which already hosts a number of different Italian restaurants, by installing kitchen equipment in the popular bar.

Matt Corrigan, chief executive of Lincoln Big - an organisation committed to improving the atmosphere in the centre of the city for local residents - described the news that national investment could be focused on the area as "encouraging".

He added that this has been an ongoing trend in the centre of Lincoln, reflecting the regeneration efforts made by his company and others.

"The Strait and Narrow pub and Patisserie Valerie have both recently opened and there is a mix of local and national investment up there," added Mr Corrigan.

A number of Italian businesses are already situated in the West Parade and High Street area of the city, offering Lincoln residents plenty of choice as long as they are looking for pasta or pizza.

Businessman Pompeo Siracusa, who runs A Taste of Italy by Pompeo in West Parade, told the newspaper that he welcomes the Italian influence on the city's restaurant scene.

"It gives people the choice ... Italian produce is popular with the people of Lincoln and they appreciate the quality of our food," he added.

Carluccio's has become one of the UK's most-loved high street chain restaurants over the last few years, having been established in 1991.

The firm currently has 69 restaurants in Britain and operates other sites across the globe, including Qatar, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801497293-ADNFCR
