Boost to expand UK operation

Boost Juice Bars UK is set to expand with the help of a £2.5 million investment from the Business Growth Fund (BGF).

The chain, which specialises in the sale of healthy smoothies and fruit juices, was launched in Australia in 2000 and reached the UK in 2007.

A major influx of catering equipment could be required by the firm in the new year, as it has set out ambitious growth plans.

With the support of the BGF, which has taken a minority stake in the business, the company will aim to extend its current portfolio of stores to 40 outlets over the next three years.

According to Eat Out magazine, the BGF's Andy Gregory will join the board at Boost as part of the deal.

Richard O'Sullivan, chief executive of Boost, told the publication: "Having achieved our target number of test stores along with our move into healthy profitability over the last year, we are now well positioned to expand the business to a further 30 locations over the next few years."

He added that the company had "decided to seek some outside growth capital to service the next phase of this expansion".

Mr O'Sullivan was one of the three people to launch Boost's UK operation in April 2007, having also been part of the team that founded the Millie's Cookies chain in the mid-1980s.

The company aims to provide a healthy alternative to soft drinks, on-the-go meals and sweets.

Boost UK currently has 10 branches in seven locations, including outlets at Manchester's Trafford Centre, the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre in London and Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping mall.

The Trafford Centre branch, which was launched as the chain's flagship UK store, is one of the best performing Boost outlets in the world.

Boost now has almost 300 stories in nearly 20 countries, making it the largest juice and smoothie bar chain in the southern hemisphere.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801512417-ADNFCR
