Restaurant openings and news this week

26 | 09 | 13

We go through some of the more unique restaurant openings, expansions and news announced so far this week.

Comptoir Libanais expands to Bluewater

The Lebanese-inspired eatery Comptoir Libanais will open a new restaurant at Bluewater shopping centrei - its first outside of London.

Its new location will have 3,132 sq ft of floor space along the Lower Thames Walk, found near the entrance to the Plaza.

Comptoir Libanais's founder Tony Kitous said: "Bluewater was the obvious choice for our expansion out of London. It is a high quality environment with a very strong reputation for the quality and success of its diverse dining offer. That so many other innovative brands have selected Bluewater made our decision even easier."

The restaurant chain will join a list of other restaurant businesses that chose Bluewater as its first location outside of London or the south-east of the UK, joining the likes of Tapas Revolution, Wasabi, Tossed, Tortilla, Barlans Bryon and Cote, Lolas Cupcakes and Wahaca. It also brings the total number of new brands in Bluewater this year to 30, amounting to 180,000 sq ft of new or improved space in the centre.

No opening date was given, but Comptoir Libanais will open in time for Christmas.

Jurys Inn Islington to receive £12.1m expansion

Jurys Inn has announced a £12.1 million expansion which will see it become the flagship property for the company.

The chain of 32 hotels will spend the money adding 143 bedrooms to the establishment, bringing the total to 372. It will also include a complete refurbishment of the hotel - now 15 years old - bringing every area up to date, from bedrooms to the kitchen.

Chief executive officer for Jurys Inn John Brennan said: "It will present a contemporary interior and sophisticated atmosphere whilst continuing to offer affordable accommodation and a warm and friendly service for our guests.

"Islington was the first Jurys Inn hotel in London so this project marks an exciting time for the group and we are looking forward to witnessing the transformation that will take place."

The extension on the Islington business forms part of a wider programme of redevelopment across the Jurys Inn group. More than 1,000 bedrooms and public areas were refurbished in 2012. A further £25 million will be used for more projects leading to the end of next year.

Qbic offers new London hotel

A boutique hotel chain from Holland is set to launch its first location in London in October.

Qbic Hotel London City, found near Spitalfield Market, will mark the second business in the franchise, following the first pilot facility in Amsterdam.

It focuses on using pods - which can be built in two hours inside an existing building - to quickly develop the accommodation, each consisting of 40 elements.

The brand also focuses on budget accommodation, inclusive of breakfast. Expansion is predicted, with up to 15 hotels expected to open within the next six or seven years, - empty office buildings are the main targets for locations.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801642454-ADNFCR
