New restaurant to focus on local produce

A new restaurant has opened in Northumberland and has promised to serve as much local produce as it possibly can.

Chris and Janet Watmore bought the Holystone Lodge and Restaurant three years ago and have since spent time renovating the estate, reports the Northumberland Gazette. The eatery is now open once again and among its many features is an 80-year-old AGA in the kitchen.

The couple's previously owned Turfland, which was the first business in the UK to grow turf all the way from seed. However, they had a desire to diversify and try their hand in another industry, leading them to the restaurant trade.

Mrs Watmore explained she and her husband initially faced a decision over whether to demolish the lodge house and some of the surrounding buildings or renovate them. Eventually, they chose the latter option.

"While we were doing that we started to think about diversification for the farm. As we were doing the work we started thinking that it would work as a restaurant and it all just came together," she stated.

Socrates Giazitzoglu has been employed as the head chef of the new restaurant and he will bring 35 years of experience to the role. He added that he cannot wait to get started as he is keen to make an impression in the Coquet Valley.

He suggested people will come from miles around to visit the restaurant as those working there will do all they can to provide "the best food and the best service". This is without mentioning the beautiful countryside that surrounds the estate.

In order to achieve the very best results, a new restaurant could invest in the latest kitchen equipment and catering technology on the market. This should help them to operate in the most efficient manner and achieve the highest standards.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801649144-ADNFCR
