Chef Simon Rimmer in talks over Manchester opening

Simon Rimmer has revealed he is looking to launch a restaurant in Manchester.

Talking to the Manchester Evening News, Mr Rimmer said he is currently "in talks" over a possible location in the city, which could open next year.

The chef - who also hosts Sunday Brunch on Channel 4 with Tim Lovejoy - joins a number of high-profile names setting up in the city such as Simon Rogan, currently at The French. Aiden Bryne will be opening Manchester House next month, while James Martin will be taking over a restaurant - formerly known as the Linen - this month.

As such, Manchester is becoming a location known for fine dining restaurants, gathering industry attention as well as the associated area of catering equipment as famous chefs look to set up quality kitchens and restaurants.

Mr Rimmer said: "Manchester has got a really good feel to it at the moment, there’s a buoyancy and vibrancy in the food scene. With Simon open at The French, and Aiden opening Manchester House I think it's likely we'll have two Michelin Star restaurants in the city this time next year."

He went on to say that, while he isn't necessarily interested in Michelin Stars, he feels it's important for the city to win them. The stars are often seen as a measurement of a restaurant's quality and status. As such, it could mark the improving quality of food and catering in the greater Manchester area. With four well-known chefs opening up in the city, there is potential.

The TV cook already has two restaurants already established in the area. Earle is located in Hale, while Greens is in Didsbury. Plans are also underway to open a new restaurant in Liverpool - the Layla Brasserie situated at DoubleTree Hilton hotel. The Manchester location will be the chef's fourth restaurant.

In addition to Sunday Brunch, Mr Rimmer has also appeared on numerous catering and cooking related programmes, such as Great Food Live and Breaking Into Tesco.ADNFCR-16001031-ID-801632475-ADNFCR
